12/5-12/11 announcement

Dear parents,

12/5 agenda:
1. Learn about animals live in the water.
2. Lesson 9 text, pinyin symbol, and combination.
3. Story- the little red riding hood. (the initial sound of red and flower is today's target symbol.)
4. practice combine ㄏwith many previous learned "final symbols" and make associations with objects.  Please see the worksheet in the folder and review all the sounds and objects with your kid. 
5. Character learning activities with Teacher Jessie.
6. Homework - review lesson 1-9 (especially the symbols) and work on lesson 9 worksheets (in the folder).

12/12 is the last class of this semester.  We will review/evaluate lessons 1-9 in the first half of the class and the second half of the class time will be a parent-teacher conference.  We usually communicate with you through the Blog and seldom hear feedback from you.  Please come and share your concern or suggestions with us so we can work closer to encourage each other.

There is no proper sink to wash greasy utensils in. We all will need to take them home and wash them in our own kitchen sinks at home.

Agenda for 11/21
1. Review lesson 1-8 and pinyin symbols and combination.
2. Story: The wide-mouthed frog (Chinese edition).

Next class: 12/5 lesson 9
Last class for 2010: 12/12 - review lesson 1-9

There is no shortcut to learn any subject/skill including our heritage language.  The more time you involve the greater the chances are that your kids show interests and confidence about the language. I do not want you to spend long hours on the textbook or pinyin symbols but to provide language-rich environment for your kids.  You can sing, tell stories, read stories, chat, play, etc. together with your kids in Chinese.  (This is how we learn our language naturally.)  I have seen great progresses in some of our kids' learning and I believe that it is all parents' devotions.
For those who were not natives, there are ways to help kids at home.  You can use online resources or printed materials as tools to learn the language together.  The way you learn will inspire your kids.  Here are a couple of portals to expand the learning beyond the classroom:

11/14-11/20announcement

Dear parents,

Today's agenda:
1. Review lesson 7
2. Story - "Tall" by Jez Alborough (in Chinese and please ask your kid to summarize the story for you.  The key word is "Tall" in Chinese.)
3. Lesson 8 rhyme, phonetic symbols and combination. 
4. Tones practice - please help your kid to distinguish 4 tones.  For example: ㄎㄜ combination sound: ask your kid to give you  examples of ㄎㄜ(in four different tones).  We had practiced in class using objects.  You may want to ask your kids to draw objects that are related to the sounds. 
5. Character recognition- 生日(birthday)。Please use the art worksheet in the folder to work with your kid to learn the new characters.
6. Please bring the "Turkey" project back to the class next week.  Teacher Jessie has a special activity on 11/21.
Next week: Review Lesson 7 & 8 and all the phonetic symbols and combinations.

Dear parents,

Today's agenda:
1. Review Lesson 1-6. Most children can read aloud texts very well.
2. Lesson 7: 高師傅,賣年糕,吃了年年高
Children tasted 年糕 during snack time. Hopefully this helped them to connect the word they learned today.
3. Target symbols and combination.
4. Homework -
1) Read aloud lesson 7 text and review lesson 1-6.
2) Worksheets in your child's folder.  (Please help your child do the worksheets and return the folder next class.  Children who work on their worksheets will be given stickers for the folders. Tzu Chi volunteers will help children to work on workseehts during the snack time if assistance is needed.)
5.Humanity class: please help your child to write down anything your child is thankful for on the feathers of his/her turkey (art craft we did today). In the next humanity class, children will be asked to present their turkey and share the stories.
6.Next class: Nov.14. Lesson 8.

親愛的成長小班家長們:

今天上課前稍微複習了這學期上課的注音符號,並印成複習單張夾在Folder中讓孩子們帶回家複習,請記得下週帶來,接下來幾次上課除了新課文,老師也會再三複習之前教過的注音符號。

後來請孩子們輪流背頌上次的課程內容 (袋鼠去買蛋,帶著購物袋),幾乎每個孩子都能完成,老師覺得孩子們好棒!

10/31-11/6 announcement

Dear Parents,

 Today we reviewed lesson 1-6 texts and phonetic symbols with combination.  Everybody did a great job by reading aloud the texts.  However, our kids still have a little difficulties in identifying the phonetic symbols occasionally.  Please use the review worksheet inside the folder to go over the objects and combination sounds.

Instructions: 1. Say the object in Chinese and ask your child to point out the object.  2. Read out loud the combination sounds with tones and ask your child to identify the combination sounds.  3. (Change roles) Let your child pretend to be the teacher and ask your child to test you.  He/she says the object and you point out the object for him/her.  4. Point out an object and ask your child to read a related text about the object.  There are many ways to review lessons.  Be creative and share with us please!

Next week 11/7: lesson 7.  (I will be absent on Nov. 7 and Teacher Jessie will be in charge of both sessions.)

10/17 -10/30 announcement

Dear Parents,

Today's agenda:
1. Review Lesson 5
2. Lesson 6: 旅行- 呂先生,騎驢子,到處去旅行。(Please ask your child to use their own words/experience to substitute the text.  We practiced in class to use different people's last name, different transportation, and a variety of places that your child had traveled.)  Make connections to your child's life makes learning more fun and meaningful.
3. Target symbols and combination.
4. Story - The missing donkey 少了一頭驢.  (You may want to ask your child about the story.)
5. Characters- 十月十日過生日。(Teacher Jessie would like everyone knows how to read aloud and recognize the target characters about date and birthday.)
6. Homework -
1) Read aloud lesson 6 text and review lesson 1-5.
2) Worksheets in your child's folder.  (Please help your child do the worksheets and return the folder next class.  Teacher Jessie will check the worksheets.  IF the worksheets didn't finish, your child needs to work on the worksheets during the "station time".
7.Next class: Oct. 31.  Review Lesson 1-6.  (No class next week, Fall Break!)

10/3 -10/9 announcement

Dear Parents,

We had an assessment for lesson 1-4 today.  Please find an assessment report in your child's folder.  Your child did wonderfully in reading aloud the texts and pointing out objects in the lessons.  Some kids still have difficulties either in identifying the pinyin symbols or in sounding out the combination of the symbols.  Please continue working with your child on those weak points.  Please sign and return the report next class.  Your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
We also made a weather wheel in class.  Please remember to bring the weather wheel to the class so we can practice different weather patterns throughout the years.
Next week 10/10 we will continue lesson 5.

9/26 - 10/2 announcement

Dear Parents,

Agenda for 9/26
1. Review Lesson 3
2. Lesson 4 - 吃豆 (圍圍兜,吃豆豆,掉了一地豆。)Target symbols: ㄉㄡ
3. Pinyin combination practice - from lesson 1-4.
4. Story - Percival the Plain Little Caterpillar (Story was told in Chinese.)
5. Review 一二三木頭人rhyme and target characters.
6. Review game for target characters.

Homework
1. Read aloud lesson 4 and  recognize all the target symbols from 1-4.
2. Read aloud 一二三木頭人 and recognized target characters. (A handout was sent home today.)
3. Review lesson 1~ 4 texts and all the target symbols with combination.

Next class- 10/3, Review lesson 1~4 and we will have "reading aloud" and "sounding phonetics" assessments.

Please help your child review Chinese as often as possible and make it a pleasant routines.  Try to make reviewing Chinese fun and encouraging. Have your child tell you the lessons (text contents), or ask him/her to talk about the pictures in the lessons.  Let your child practice express him/herself in Chinese and you assist your child alongside.  (Do not just read aloud the texts without any interactions.  That is really boring!) 

You child needs your motivation and involvement.  If you did not show your enthusiasm, your child's interests in learning Chinese will not increase.

Again, thank you for your support and let's work together to make learning Chinese fun and productive.

成長小班第三堂課(9/19)課後叮嚀

親愛的成長小班家長們:

今天上課內容:
注 音 ㄇㄜ
國 字 妹妹
課文內容 妹妹摸貓咪,貓咪笑咪咪。(取自小康軒撥種篇)

今天一開始說了怪獸阿抖的故事,希望讓孩子們了解每個人都能可以自己選擇讓生活更美好。

後來請孩子們上台背頌上次的課程內容 (婆婆拍皮球,大家拍拍手),指出ㄅㄆㄇㄚㄛ,或是國字(爸爸,寶寶,婆婆) ,孩子們都好踴躍舉著小小的手要上台。真的很棒。老師本來想好的抽籤箱看來是用不到了(笑) 。

2歲以下的小小孩們雖然不一定能完成指令,但老師還是設計了一個絨布版故事時間,讓小小孩也能上台有參與感。

爸爸媽媽你們在家教導也辛苦了,你們的努力會一點一滴的會看到成果的,我們一起加油。

9/19 - 9/26 annoucement

Dear parents,

At the beginning of today's class, most kids did the show (their drawing of 4 rabbits story) and tell (the story of 4 rabbits). Good job!

We learned lesson 3.
Target symbols: ㄈㄟ
Text: 蜜蜂飛 蝴蝶飛 小鳥飛飛飛
Object: 肥皂 痱子粉

We also practiced 一二三, 木頭人 by playing word cards. We will play more games next week to ensure kids are familiar with those words.

Assignment: 2 pages of ㄈㄟ practice. For 4 years old, you may let the kid(s) use different colors of crayons to "trace" Zhuyin" symbols. For 4 years old, the child’s hand is flexible and malleable and his movement may not be yet set. Do not force them to write, if they do not feel like to, but practice pronunciation and different combination of Zhuyin with them. For 5 or 6 years old, you may let him or her use pencils if (s)he is ready.

成長二班 第四堂課

上週休息了一次沒有上課, 原以為小朋友會忘記第一課的生字,
小考後, 讓我有一些意外,發現比上次考試的結果更好.
兩位男生 100 分 ,其他的小朋友, 都只有錯一個字 很棒喔!

這次是上第二課 小朋友已經熟悉和我上課的默契了
說故事-->課文朗讀 --> 生字練習 -->句子練習

如果小朋友累積到十個印章 我會帶小禮物讓他選 好像已經快有人得到了喲!!

9/12 - 9/18 annoucement - 2

Dear parents,

We reviewed ㄅㄚㄆㄨ today. Most of the kids can say and recognize Zhuying smybol ㄅ,ㄚ,ㄆ,and ㄨ individually, as well as the combination of ㄅㄚand ㄆㄨ. They were also done a good job reading aloud the lesson 1 and lesson 2 texts.

The combination of ㄅㄨ and ㄆㄚ still seems challenging to some kids. Please work with the kids at home for different “Zhuying” combinations.

We also learned the followings
(1) 認字: 一 二 三 木 人.
(2) 課文: 一二三, 木頭人, 不要跑, 不要動



Final reminder,

(1) Pleae bring the folder back to class next Sun. The papers inside the left pocket of the folder should be returned to school. The papers inside the right pocket of the folder are meant to stay home for parents to review with the kids especially if they are still left blank.
(2) The assignment (see the annoucement from Ms. Tung Fen below. )

今天複習上次的課程內容時,許多孩子能上台背出課文 (爸爸抱寶寶,寶寶吃飽飽) 也正確指出ㄅ或ㄆ,實在是很了不起的事情! 他們年紀雖小,卻能克服上台的恐懼還能夠唸出完整課文,相信爸爸媽媽們在家也費了一番苦心。希望親師雙方一起努力,讓孩子們的中文程度更上一層樓。

成長二班第二週

親愛的家長:
這星期上課一開始
我們先複習課堂儀規

再複習上週的六個生字,之後- 要求每個小朋友上台寫兩個字
可是 只有三位小朋友可以完整寫出兩個字

從下次上課起 老師每次都會先小考一下生字
以填空方式 或是聽寫 或是選擇
請家長和小朋友一起在家多多練習中文字囉!!

寫作業& 聽CD 仍是每天要做的喲!
還有上週作業沒有一百分的人,請訂正.

8/22-8/29 announcement

Dear Parents,

Please review the following assignments with your child at home so he/she will be able to actively participate in class.

Today's agenda:
1. Review classroom routines, vowel song, and number chant (1-5).
2. Lesson 1- “巴士”:大巴士, 叭叭叭,好像叫爸爸。
3。Target "Zhuyin" symbols: ㄅㄚ.
4. Story: A skunk without a tail.
4. Number chant 1-10: 一什麽一,鉛筆一;二什麽二,鴨子二;三什麽三,蝴蝶三;四什麽四,帆船四;五什麽五,鈎鈎五; 六什麽六,哨子六;七什麽七,拐杖七; 八什麽八, 眼鏡八;九什麽九,氣球九;十什麽十,一根棒子打棒球。

Our teaching philosophy is to expose our kids to a variety of materials so they have opportunities to explore the language through playing. Teacher Jessie organized many activity stations for your child to "play" with "Zhuyin" and "characters" concepts. Please come and volunteer to host a station (detailed instructions will be provided) during the activity/play time.

At the beginning of each class, I will always review materials learned in the previous week. Please review with your child. Thank you very much for working with your child at home. Have a nice week!

Introduction of humanity class

Hi! Parents:

My name is Rainbow and I believe that we met on the first day of school. I will introduce you about the lesson design of our humanity class on 8-22-2010, from 10:10 to 10:30. The humanity class is unique to our program. We would like the kids not only learn Chinese language, but also learn the values, culture and Jing-si Aphorisms. Hope to see you there.

成長小班第一堂課(8/15)課後叮嚀


親愛的成長小班家長們:

快樂的第一堂課就在各位孩子們的踴躍幫忙中結束了,
請各位爸爸媽媽記得讓孩子們複習第一課課文還有附件的字卡 (爸爸,寶寶,)
下次上課如果唸得出課文或能認國字,就有獎勵喔

對了,下次上課雖然是10:50才開始,希望大家能10:40到教室,老師會準備好聽的故事給孩子們聽喔!

這星期已經有作業囉 ! 也請小朋友開始聽第一課CD了.

8/15-8/21 announcement


Dear parents,

Because some parents are not native Chinese speakers, I will post our weekly announcement in English.
It was a pleasure to meet  you and your precious kids today.  We had a busy and smooth start of the new semester year.   After getting to know your kids better, I will make adjustments based on the needs and interests of your child.

Starting next week, we will have tables and chairs in our class and we also will have a seating chart.  Please talk to your kids about the changes.

Today we learned:
1.  Classroom routines and greetings
2. "Give me five" rules - Teachers show a hand to signal "pay attentions".
3."Vowel song" - see video below.
4. Number (1-5) chant - see video below.
Homework:
1. Review Vowel song and Number chant
2. Know your Chinese name (the pronunciation)

愛心爸爸及愛心媽媽

親愛的爸爸媽媽們, 我們每次上課需要兩位愛心爸爸或愛心媽媽的幫忙•
請當週的愛心爸爸或愛心媽媽:
1. 提早15分鐘到慈濟會所,並穿上愛心爸爸,愛心媽媽志工服•
2. 幫忙影印或裝訂教具•
3. 引導小菩薩們放好鞋子, 走到教室•
4. 幫忙成長大班Jessie老師帶分組活動•
5. 下課時 引導小菩薩們到戶外玩, 並幫忙維持小菩薩們的安全•
6. 注意維護教室整潔•
